Nick Frost: I Won’t Imitate Robbie Coltrane in the Harry Potter Series

According to cinemadrame news agency, Nick Frost states he will not imitate Robbie Coltrane, the former actor who played Rubeus Hagrid in all eight cinematic versions of “Harry Potter,” in the upcoming “Harry Potter” series. However, he emphasized that he will remain faithful to the source material. Filming for the “Harry Potter” series for HBO is set to begin this summer. The “Harry Potter” series, produced by J.K. Rowling, is planned to run for a decade. Francesca Gardiner will serve as writer and showrunner, with Mark Mylod as director and executive producer for the project.

Frost told Collider that he is “aware” of Coltrane’s performance in the “Harry Potter” films, calling it a “wonderful performance,” but he stressed that he would “never” imitate him: “I’m going to try and do a performance, not a ‘different’ performance. I think you have to be respectful of the source, but there’s room for elaboration. I’ve always seen Hagrid as a lovely, lost, gruff, funny, warm child. I think the beauty of making a series season-by-season based on a book is that we can go into so much more detail, and I’m very excited.”

In the series, Dominic McLoughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stott will play the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively, succeeding Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. Olivier Award-winning actor John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore, Oscar-nominated actress Janet McTeer will play Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu from the series “I May Destroy You” will portray Severus Snape, and Nick Frost from the film “Shaun of the Dead” will play Rubeus Hagrid. In addition to these four actors, Luke Tallon, a theater actor from “Hamlet,” will be seen as Quirinus Quirrell, the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in the first season, and five-time BAFTA winner Paul Whitehouse will play Argus Filch, the caretaker of Hogwarts School.

The “Harry Potter” series is expected to be ready for broadcast on HBO in late 2026.
